I qualified as an OT in 1994 with a degree from Leeds University (UK), and have since worked in the UK, USA, Tanzania and NZ in a variety of OT related roles both in clinical practice (including vocational rehabilitation) and higher education settings. I was able to specialise in Community Stroke Rehabilitation in the UK in addition to my role as a Senior Lecturer at Northumbria University (where I also attained my MSc in Practice Education and Development) prior to relocating to NZ in 2007. My lecturing role required me to teach degree/masters level OT students a variety of topics that included assessment and treatment skills appropriate for ergonomic/workplace assessment and environmental modification, knowledge that has since proved beneficial in my role as an OT for AIM regarding Vocational and Workplace Assessment/Planning for ACC. I have recently been able to establish a visiting lecturing role with AUT in topics including Community Integration and Inter-professional Working, a role that I hope to develop throughout 2009.
I greatly enjoy outdoor activities including tramping, climbing and running, and hope to discover the Northland coastline by learning to scuba dive and fish. My wife Tracy is also an OT, and we have two dogs.
